Hello! My name is April and I am a 2 year breast cancer survivor who was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer at 38 years of age. I had no strong family history prior to my diagnosis and found the experience to be overwhelming to say the least.
The words “You have cancer” were such a foreign concept to me. I didn’t even know where to begin after that initial conversation. After it sunk in, I began to search for as much information as I could get my hands on. Having a Master’s in Psychological Services, my expectations were high for finding support within the medical community. I expected to find a plethora of helpful information regarding young women and breast cancer. Unfortunately, this was one pocket that was left somewhat empty due to the fact that we represent such a small part of the overall population of women afflicted with breast cancer.
Now that I am a 2 year breast cancer survivor, I wanted to put together an informative webpage helping women navigate their way through such an overwhelming and sometimes foreign process. Having said that, from time to time, I will also highlight other women’s health issues on my page but the emphasis will always remain on breast cancer. Here, I hope that you will find information, support and guidance on breast cancer as well as other women’s health issues that we struggle with today.
I have always said that this is both a medical process and an emotional journey. I hope that you will join me in this journey and find your way to a healthier you.
Be well!
